Outbound Process with SAP EWM LOSC & POSC

In an automotive spare parts warehouse, managing outbound deliveries requires meticulous planning and execution. The diverse nature of products, ranging from heavy to smaller components, presents unique challenges. SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) addresses these complexities through an efficient combination of Layout-Oriented Storage Control (LOSC) and Process-Oriented Storage Control (POSC).

Let’s explore a practical scenario that demonstrates how these tools streamline the outbound delivery process while ensuring accuracy and operational efficiency.

Scenario: An outbound delivery order is created for two products:

1. A spark plug stored on the mezzanine floor.
   
   
2. An engine block is located on the ground floor.

Both products need to be picked, packed into a single handling unit (HU), staged, loaded onto a truck, and issued for delivery. This involves the integration of LOSC and POSC, which guide the movement of products through the warehouse.

1. Picking the Products

• Picking the Spark Plug (Mezzanine Floor):
  The spark plug is stored on the mezzanine floor, requiring movement across multiple warehouse levels. To handle this, SAP EWM triggers a LOSC step. The system generates a task to move the product from its mezzanine storage bin to an intermediate location near the ground floor. Once the spark plug reaches this intermediate location, POSC is initiated to continue the process.
  
  
• Picking the Engine Block (Ground Floor):
  The engine block, stored on the ground floor, does not require LOSC. Instead, SAP EWM directly triggers POSC, guiding the operator to retrieve the product and transport it to the packing area.

2. Packing the Products

At the packing area, the spark plug and engine block are packed individually and attached labels to it.

3. Staging for Shipment

Those HUs are moved to the staging area near the loading dock. EWM generates staging tasks to position the HUs in the correct zone, ensuring it is ready for loading.

4. Loading onto the Truck

From the staging area, the HU is loaded onto the designated truck. POSC guides this step, ensuring that the loading sequence aligns with the transport plan.

5. Goods Issue

The process concludes with the Goods Issue (GI) posting. This update confirms that the products have left the warehouse, ensuring inventory accuracy. The GI posting also triggers and updates to S4.
